It seems like daily I read heartbreaking stories about things happening in our world. I know I have a choice - I can continue to read the stories, do nothing, and feel helpless or I can choose positivity, kindness, and find ways I can help others. When I read about four years of service it was exactly what I needed - a way to take action, to try in a small way to make the world around me a little better, to be a good example for my kids and show them that even though there can be craziness and sadness in this world there is always something we can do, no matter how big or how small. I'm excited for this journey!
I'm beginning my journey by thinking of how I can serve. The last nearly 11 years I have spent working in college financial aid. I've been thinking of the organizations I could connect with that serve students and families trying to navigate this confusing process. Also, I am interested in fighting for our rights and freedom. That will be part of my four years of service - whether it is supporting Standing Rock or serving others in the fight for truth (environmentally, from our government, etc).
I'm looking forward to serving so let's get started!
