Kindness begets kindness. Charity begets charity. Civility begets civility. Love begets love. I’m involved in this project because I believe small acts can change the world. I believe that thoughts and prayers are great, but actions make the difference.

For those of us who worry now for our friends and family, and for anyone who suffers from oppression, racism, sexism, misogyny, rape culture, homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia, and the politics of hate, this is a real thing we can do. This is a way to show love in our communities.

And make no mistake: Hate is loud, but love is strong. Love wins in the end.

It’s easy now to feel defeated. It’s easy now to feel lost in a world that seems so far from what we thought we were building. It’s easy to hunker down and hope for better in four years.

But nothing worthwhile is easy. We fight for what we want.

I’m doing this because I can. I’m doing this because I want to. I’m doing this because I am privileged and I am therefore duty-bound to my fellow humans to use that privilege to raise up all of us.
